A special Valentine for someone special. With a pencil lightly draw a heart, circle, or oval around the picture on the card. Cut out the shape, cutting just inside the pencil marks. On the back side draw a line about 1/8 inch from the edge.

Gift bag made from a recycled Pop Tart Box. This is a great way to reuse empty boxes and scraps of wrapping paper and have a beautiful one of a kind gift bag.

Approximate Time: 2 hours

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut the top flaps off the top of an empty pop tart box.

  2. Sit the box on the wrapping paper and trace around the bottom of the box. You will then cut the paper about a 1/2 inch wider around than what you traced.

  3. Glue the bottom of the box using your glue stick and adhere the paper to the bottom of the box. Then glue about 1/2' above the bottom of the box and fold the paper up around the sides making sure all paper is flat against the box.

  4. Lay the box down sideways and measure about 1 inch longer than the sides and cut the paper making sure you leave enough length to wrap around all 4 sides of the box. (Tip: I have found it is easiest if you use the pre-cut edge of the wrapping paper to go around the bottom because it is straight.)

  5. Using your glue stick glue all the sides of the box and wrap the paper around making sure all paper is flat. Then you will fold the extra top 1 inch of paper down and glue to the inside of the box.

  6. Take a Valentine Card image and glue to the box. You can use old cards, post cards or their are lots of free download-able images on the web. On this I put an image on the front and a different image on the back.

  7. Use all purpose glue around the image and anywhere else you want to add glitter and then add glitter and shake off excess and let dry.

  8. *Note: You could also add buttons, charms, pearls or anything else you may like.

  9. Once the glue is dried you will punch a hole on each side of the box for the handle.

  10. Finish off with a piece of ribbon about 12 inches long. Thread the ribbon on each side from the outside to the inside and tie with a knot.

Now you have a beautiful gift bag to fill with items for a special friend!

Instead of cards (that too often get tossed in the "circular file") I made beaded Valentine's Day gifts last year.

Even though they are inexpensive and very simple, my family and friends loved them. They can be easily hung as a sun catcher from a window frame with a paper clip, attached to a mirror, used as a keychain, or simply hung on the wall.

I learned while volunteering with a native American organization to make gifts like this only when I am in a good mood and have positive feelings. These positive vibes will then be transferred on to the recipient of my gift.

Valentine's gift idea but can be used for any occasion.

Materials

Instructions

  1. Take the 3 candy bars and hold them vertically so the sides touch each other forming a triangle in the center.
  2. Once you see how this forms then you will put a small line of glue on the inner edge of the candy bars and glue them together to permanently form the triangle model.
  3. Next cut a small piece of Styrofoam or wad enough newspaper up in a ball so you can stuff in in the center of the candy bars (should fit fairly snug).
  4. Then remove it and poke a hole with the stem of the silk flower (or real one).
  5. Put some glue around the edges of the Styrofoam or newspaper and put it in the center of the candy bars quickly so it will be more permanent and let the glue adhere for a minute or so.
  6. Now take the silk or real rose stem and poke it in the hole you previously made in the Styrofoam or newspaper centerpiece you just glued.
  7. Stuff some tissue paper from the bottom to cover the Styrofoam or newspaper. Finish off with stuffing more tissue paper around the stem to cover the remaining glued centerpiece.
  8. Lastly, tie the red ribbon around the flower stem about 2 inches above the edge of the candy bar model.
  9. For added fun, you can glue Hershey's kisses around the top.

Now you have a inexpensive but thoughtful gift for your woman. If you wish to give this to a guy, replace the rose with whatever you want.

You can also write a note and then punch a hole big enough for the ribbon to go through and then tie it to the stem.

VALENTINE'S ANGELS

Need old-fashioned clothespins, heart-shaped doilies, glue, markers, gold pipe cleaners, lace or fabric scraps

Using fabric or lace scraps, "dress" the clothespin angel. Use markers to make the face and a bit of gold pipe cleaner for the halo. Glue the lace doilies to the back of the clothespin to make wings. Add stick-on magnet to the back or hang from embroidery thread.

CARDBOARD FRAMES

Need sheets of cardboard, foam hearts, fake jewels, pink or red yarn

Cut cardboard ahead of time for kids so that they have a "picture" hole. Or use tongue depressors to make a frame. Let the kids wind the yarn over and around the cardboard, completely covering it. Tuck ends under. Glue foam hearts and fake jewels onto the yarn and let dry. Tape a picture to the back of the frame so that the face shines through!

Take two pieces of construction paper, maybe different colors, and draw a heart. {we used a scalloped pattern] cut out the two hearts and punch holes along the the edges about 1/2 in apart or so. Then lace the two pices together, starting at one side of the top of the heart,go all around and meet at the top. Fill with candy hearts{or a love letter to mom and dad} and tie into a bow.

Windsocks!! An easy, inexpensive fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day. I use construction paper and let the kids decorate any way they wish. Some use crayons and draw hearts or other pictures on it, or maybe stickers if you have them. Then roll the paper into a cylinder. Attach red, pink and white paper streamers to the bottom (from a roll, usually about 3 rolls for a dollar) then use ribbon or string at the top to hang them.
