I would just like to know, I noticed funny signs in my dog Saturday evening, but did not know much about parvo. Then Sunday she stopped eating. I took her to the vet the Monday morning and it turned out to be parvo. She received her first shot and come home with meds.
I wasn't happy with seeing my baby like that and decided to book her into the animal hospital on Tuesday morning. I've phoned in every day cause my heart bleeds for my puppy and I feel like I'm going into depression because of worrying. Yesterday they told me my dog is worse, I would like to know is there a high chance that my baby will fight and recover from this it's her 4th day in hospital.
I had one of my dogs in the vets for over a week when he got sick from my neighbor's dog he was playing with. There were touchy moments and the dog seemed to do better then the next day he seemed worse. In the end they were there for the dog and he survived and was able to come home in about 8 days.
You have done all you can. It is not unusual for dogs to still be quite sick on day 7 or 8. It can take a month before they really look and act normal again. You could go visit. The puppies get depressed too and it might be good for both of you. She should begin to improve before too long.
My dog is 8 years old. It is suffering with parvovirus. We had taken him to the vet and they are telling me to not feed anything to my dog and they continuously inject him with fluids.
It's been 7 days. Will it be okay? I am really worried about it.My dog has parvo and is being treated with IV fluids, antibiotics etc., but she is not drinking water on her own. This is the 4th day. Is there any hope she will get better? She has stopped stooling and vomiting.
This will take time, it's only been 4 days. The medicine is working, you have to keep up her needs and feed liquids in a syringe if needed until she can help herself. She needs you more now than ever. Follow the Vet's direction and she will be fine!
Parvo is hard on a dog and recovery time can take up to 21 days for the dog to fully recover. Since the dog is on an IV and is drinking water the dog is on the way to recovery.
My puppy that I just got two days ago was barfing a white liquidy color and she also had white liquidy diarrhea. The problem is she was not vaccinated. We got her to the vet and they gave her a parvo test. It turned out to be positive so we got her a lot of medicines that the veterinarian asked for and we left her there.
The veterinarian gave her about 4 of those IV liquids and now she is left alone in the vet office because the vet has closed. Could she have died now? They normally have someone who goes in to check on the dogs to make sure they are fine. If the dog needs more medication late at night they make sure the dog gets what it needs.
Your Vet would have let you know if your puppy had died. It is normal for animals to stay a day or 2 (or 3 or 4) at the Vet with parvo. They will call you when they reopen with an update. If they dont call you, call them. You should be able to call and arrange to go visit your puppy when the office is open. You did the right thing in getting your puppy to the Vet right away.
My puppy is nearly 7 months old. It's his second day with parvo. The vet gave me Pro-lyte, metronidazole 200mg, and Gastropect, and I take him to the vet daily to get his injections.
He doesn't vomit or have diarrhoea. Will he recover completely or should I be worried because he is sleeping the whole time? He drank some water this morning on his own.If you are making regular vet visits for the dog then you have nothing to worry about. I have had 2 dogs with parvo in the past. My first dog recovered at home in about a week. The second dog had to be kept at the vet for 10 days but made a full recovery.
The fact that your dog is drinking on her own tells me she is beginning to recover or has a lighter case than most dogs get. It can take awhile to recover from parvo. Many dogs require a month or so. Keep taking good care of her. I love to see parvo lose. It wins way too often.
So my 3 month old almost 4 Shih Tzu has parvo. She was diagnosed with it on Dec. 26; it's now Dec. 30. The day she was diagnosed was the first day she threw up. I have been giving her lots of water and medicines as the vet prescribed.
She has barely eaten anything. I have given her food through a syringe and she has been holding it down, but she hasn't made a stool since the night she was diagnosed. Is she getting better? And what else can I do?If she is no longer throwing up and she does not hae blood in her stools then she is getting better. Normally this can take a long time to heal and in some cases up to 4 weeks or maybe longer.
My dog has parvo. How long does it normally last? How long do I have to keep him away from my other dog? Is it a good sign that he is peeing now?
How long for a dog to recover from Parvo:
My puppy is suffering from parvo and now he is on his recovering period (almost a month), but he neither eats by himself nor drinks water himself. He doesn't respond to us. Whenever he walks, he goes to the corner of room and tries to stand straight, he does this with furniture too.
I am worried about him. Please tell what should I do for him? When he will be back to his normal life?I've been waking up with my puppy every night at certain hours of the night and giving him electrolytes and water. Today is day 6 of parvo for him and he's getting slightly better, but I'm just wondering when you think he'll be okay to drink by himself at night and me not having to wake up and do it for him through a syringe?
When a dog gets parvo it all depends on the animal and how long the animal takes to heal. Some dogs take longer than others but normally this can last anywhere from 7 to 30 days. The dog can recover but is still healing. Your vet can give you the necessary medications to heal the dog but it is up to the dog to heal in their own time.
I am glad your pup is beginning to improve, and good for you for working so hard with him. It is what makes the difference when it comes to parvo. I would continue to get up and give the electrolytes until he is eating well and drinking lots of water during the daytime.
I have a 11mo old Chihuahua Terrier mix who started with no desire to eat. We figured that he maybe ate something he should not have. Then on Wednesday he started with light vomiting, but no blood. We took him to the vet and he tested positive for parvo.
They gave him a anabiotic injection that lasts for 14 days, a nausea shot, and IV fluids. He now also has diarrhea with blood. We took him back again to the vet and they gave him more IV fluids.
He is drinking water, but not eating. However when he drinks water he sometimes throws it back up. We are also giving him Pedialyte with a syringe. He is very sleepy. He looks up at you when you come into the room and is able to jump on and off the bed. What scary is the diarrhea with blood that is sometime dark or red. Do you think he will get better? What else can I do? We are going into the 4th day.Normally this takes anywhere from 3 weeks to a month and a half to get over this illness. I did have a dog who ended up with blood in his poop that had to be hospitalized at the vets and given fluids 24/7. It took 8 days for him to get active again and another 2 before he could come home. They wanted to make sure he would eat before releasing him. If you are worried then you may need to ask the vet if they can care for the dog if you are having issues taking care of him alone.
The bloody diarrhea is scary. It seems to be a regular part of parvo. You are doing the right things. It is most important that you keep in touch with your Vet when there are changes, like the diarrhea. You should be able to do a phone conversation with your Vet. You may want to consider another trip for more IV fluids. The dehydration is what is so hard on the dogs. The 1st week is usually the worst. And your dog may not feel well for a couple weeks.
I am here to get information. We found out that our puppy has parvo. She's been in the care of a veterinarian and it has been helping her a lot. On 01-29-18 is when the diarrhea came and it smelled really bad and now it's 02-07-18.
Can anyone tell me if that means she's getting better? There are times when she eats and then other days that she doesn't. So we give her Pedialyte and Pediasure. When she walks she does fall because she's super weak.Parvo can last for several weeks, and the dog will be tired. As long as she is drinking, that's good. Make sure she has no diarrhea and vomiting.
This is a long process and depending on what meds she is still on will help determine how long she will be sick. I had 2 dogs with Parvo and it was different for each dog. One thing I did learn is that the dog with more body weight on them did a bit better than the one with less body weight. They will lose quite a bit of weight with this illness and it sounds like you caught it just in time. You can try a bland diet for the dog which is basically cooked white rice or cooked pasta and a bit of chopped up chicken. I eneded up giving my dog cooked oatmeal, but you can only give one to three tablespoons at at time.
I took my puppy to the vet on Friday to just get his shots. The vet checked him for parvo because most of the litter he came from had it and ended up dying after they had their shots. He tested positive for parvo, so they kept him over the weekend. It's now Tuesday and we were told he is doing better.
He gets up when he sees people and wags his tail, although, he isn't eating. Is this normal? Will he make it? I'm very worried. He is my first puppy and we've had him since he was about 6 weeks old, he's around 9 months now. This is normal for a dog with parvo. It can take up to a month for the dog to get back to normal. As long as he is at the vet's and they are taking care of him, I don't think you have anything to worry about. They are keeping him on an IV with fluids. Until he is better they normally don't give them much to eat or drink. Soon they should start giving him a small amount of food and see how he does.
Normally it is recommended that you get the shots for your dog at 6 to 8 weeks old. This will save the dog's life and protect him against Parvo. I'm happy that you have taken him in now before he got really sick.
My 8 week old French Bulldog was recently diagnosed with parvo. She received her first immunization on week 7. She has had semi loose stool not full blown diarrhea and she has only vomited twice so far. I have seen a few drops of blood in her poop.
My question is after she received her medicine from the vet and I have started giving her baby food with baby rice and pedialyte while also continuing her antibiotics, she has stopped pooping. It's been a whole day with no poop. Is this normal? Also no throw up. She is peeing though.
My 14 week Golden Retriever puppy was diagnosed with parvo on Saturday. He has already had 3 parvo shots. Initial symptoms were seen on Friday afternoon. He stayed at the vet until yesterday (Wednesday). He is drinking on his own, but not eating. I'm trying to force feed him, but it's pretty difficult.
He seems very nauseous despite 2 antiemetics and is still vomiting his food. It is more of a reflux regurgitation than a heavy vomiting. I'm asking for any advice and if this is normal behavior for day 6? I feel like he should be eating at least a little.Hi,
I am sorry your pet is sick.
One to six weeks is the recovery time for Parvo. The fourth week is the worst, usually. The key to recovery is rest and liquids. The dog literally cannot have too many fluids during this time.
My dog hasn't been feeling well for about three days. I took him to the vet to get medication for parvo. When will he start to eat and drink again?
Should I try and force it? I have given him IVs to rehydrate and meds to treat the infection. I'm really nervous and don't know what to do.Treating your dog:
Max is a 5 month old Labrador Retriever. He is having a fever, vomiting 2-3 times a day, and passing stool 1-2 times a day that has blood in it. I am aware these are parvo symptoms. But when we visited the vet, he said he is having pneumonia too. The last two days he has been given IVs and medicines.
I read somewhere that if they survive 4-5 days then they mostly recover. Is this true? I know it will take weeks for him to recover, but I wanted to know how long does it take for him to be out of the danger zone? I request all of you to pray for him.
I bought my puppy from a private party, we took her in to have her altered. When they tested her for parvo, she was positive. After multiple sleepless nights on two hour shifts with my wife, through injections of saline, and other means of forced hydration, we were able to save the puppy.
She was feeling much better, when approximately a week later, we noticed heavy urination, she was becoming lethargic again. We believe she has a UTI and we are treating her as such with amoxicillin, cranberry extract,
My question is this, I am starting to get concerned that I didn't complete the parvo treatment? But I have a friend, who said, if this puppy has lasted 2 weeks, the parvo is gone. Is that true? Is lethargy a symptom of a UTI as well? This is day 2 of amoxicillin and cranberry. When should I see signs of it getting better with this treatment?
Thank you so much.
My 3.5 month old puppy has been diagnosed with parvo. He's been at the vet for almost a week now. I haven't been able to have any contact with him, and contact with his rescue has been minimal. A few days after taking him home, I was notified that his litter mates had parvo-like symptoms so I had him tested, which came back positive. He's been back at the rescue receiving treatment ever since that night with no symptoms. They told me a couple more days of observation and he can come home with meds!
I've already bleached absolutely everything and ordered vet Parvo-cide wipes.
So my question is - if the vet says it's okay for him to come home, should that be okay? How secluded should I keep him? He still has had no symptoms! He's been parvo positive for over a week now. No diarrhea or vomiting. He was always a very mellow puppy and I've been starting to wonder if that was his way of showing he was sick.
Until he is completely vaccinated I would keep him secluded. Confirm this with the vet.
