Craft Project: Storage Box For Pressed Flowers I found this to be a great place to store and organize all my pressed flowers. When I was doing a project I would just pull the whole drawer out, place it on the table and it's all right at my fingertips. On smaller projects I'd just pull the drawers out partially. On the inside flap I recorded useful information for myself and even tested some pressed flowers by gluing them there. Later down the road I would see if the flowers had faded. I made this box 12 years ago, when I was fully into the craft. Hope my memory serves me correctly! The pictures give a good idea of what you have to do. I'll guide you through it. Measurements will differ because your box might be different in size. This rose starts out solid dark red the first day, the second day the rose has pinkish stripes in it and the 3rd and 4th day the rose has white stripes going through it. The roses are in clusters of 3-5 each and they bloom only on the ends of the stalks. Quite beautiful to see in person.l Don Juan roses are so beautiful when they are in bloom. Some of the flowers are 4 inches across and are deep blood red. The do acquire black spot quite frequently but most of the time I just ignore it. Maypole Dancing
This dance is a tradition on May 1st - May Day. It is danced in celebration of spring. Many years ago I researched May Pole Dancing for a teacher I was working with that wanted to teach the children the dance. I recently found the directions that I had copied from an old book I found at the library. When we built our maypole, we used a long PVC pipe that was about 5-6 inches in diameter so that we could attach the steamers so that they were taped to the inside of the pipe. We used plastic party streamers which we pretty wide and were pretty sturdy. Ours was about 12 feet of pipe with about 3 feet buried in the ground. One of the mothers made a beautiful silk flower bouquet that we used to decorate the top. We used a tape of Celtic music with bag pipes and flutes but really any folk music could be used. There are many CDs now available with English and Irish folk songs that you can buy even at Walmart. Two groups that I love but don't know what nationality they are are Blackmore's Night and Enya. They both have songs that reflect the spirit of Spring but go with what ever you like. The dancers will be weaving the ribbons down the maypole. It is a beautiful circular dance. I have included instructions for older children and younger children and parents. It may take a few practice runs but the dance is relatively simple to learn. An even number of participants take a ribbon (12 - 20 traditionally, but you can do this with even 6 kids if you make the pole smaller in diameter). Hold the ribbon taut but don't pull. Count off "'1",' "2"' around the circle (every other person is a 'One'). For 'Ones', the 'Two' on your left is your partner. For 'Twos' the 'One' on your right is your partner.

Well, here's an easy way to make sure your indoor plants stay watered while you're away. Save small empty bottles like the kind that hold Benadryl, cough syrup or liquid ibuprofen. Start by thoroughly watering your plants then after cutting the bottom of the plastic bottles off with a serrated knife, razor blade or scissors then bury the bottles upside down several inches into the soil. These tiny bottles will release water gradually as your plants need it. You can use 16 oz. water bottles for large plants, or big 2 litter plastic pop bottles for outdoor plants. You can even add a piece again between the skin and the strap-package. A better idea, that is more re-useable, would be to sew in the oval spring clip type hair clips (child sizes) with a loose tack (so it moves a bit). Can be fastened with one hand and is always ready in the dress/shirt. Source: Clips were my brainstorm after those little snap-things drove me crazy. When our kids were young, every so often we'd have a Mystery Dinner. The older kids were allowed to use whatever was in the refrigerator or pantry. They could also cook simple things--hard-boiled eggs, etc. They made up 'menus' to order from; but each item had a disguised name. Those of us not preparing the food sat at the table and ordered 3 or 4 things from the menu. When our food arrived, we started comparing what each person had ordered, trying to figure out what the disguised name was so we could order our favorites for seconds. Sometimes our sneaky kids informed us that the only thing that was a given was plate or bowl. We had to try to figure out which things on the menu were eating utensils. A person trying to eat soup with a knife provided a good many laughs. Mystery Dinners were not only a fun way to use leftovers, but were sometimes used as a way to get out of cooking when I'd had a really busy day! What a find! I make my own soymilk in 13 minutes. It's very easy to use the appliance and easy to clean the appliance if you clean it immediately after using. Soybeans are very cheap in the bulk section of Chamberlin's Natural Food Store. The icara (remains after making the milk) is also edible. Making brown rice milk is faster because you don't soak the rice like you do the beans. I know I was lucky to get my soymilk machine so cheaply. Soymilk machines usually cost over $100, but I would buy one because I drink and use a lot of soymilk. It is so nice not to have to run to the store when I am running low. This little dog was hit by a car in front of our home a few weeks ago, and being a vet tech for years I brought him in to make sure he was OK. I had to cut his moldy collar out of his long, matted fur and he had cuts and wounds all over, mostly bites from other dogs. He had obviously been out on his own for ages, as he was skinny as a rail and covered up with ticks and fleas. Well I did all I could to find the owner but to no avail, my posters had no impact nor did the ad in the paper, so Rehab is now a part of our family. Out of curiosity, I was wondering if any of you could perhaps help me determine what breed he is? He is barely 4 lbs at the most, even now that he has gained a all of his weight back and is healthy. I am leaning towards Chihuahua-Schnauzer or Chi-Poodle, judging by his coat which I unfortunately had to completely shave off, as you can see from the picture. It was in no shape to be 'fixed', it will just have to grow back out I'm afraid. It is longer, more wirey than smooth, and has a bit of wave to it, though not a lot. He has the eyebrows and 'beard' of the schnauzer, and the hair on the ears and feet is long and feathered. The color is definitely a salt-and-pepper. Any ideas? Thanks.
