I have a black and beige sectional couch and I was wondering what colour curtains would look best with it. I just bought red ones and put them up, but I don't think they look that good. Thanks!

I would suggest ivory. I like the lightness of it and white is too stark for me.

I have always disliked red curtains. I would suggest a pattern with mostly a tan or beige with maybe a stripe or other design of other colors as brown, gold, rust, or red or burgundy.

How about a nice orange color? I believe it is called Salmon now... a light pastel color in the same orangeish family.

I need help choosing the right color. I love red and my kitchen is a deep barn red. It is open to my living room that has light tan walls. The furniture is dark chocolate brown leather and the tables are a deep mahogany.

Accents in the room are red and brown. Currently I have deep red curtains on top of white blinds. It is too dark. Any ideas?

I'd look for a pattern that has a light, neutral background (similar to your wall color in that room) and a design in either red or dark brown. Something like a damask, perhaps. You'd still have color but not an overall, heavy color.

I'd probably do cream colored drapes with matching cream sheers behind them. On the drapes maybe a wide band of red, matching the red in the rest of the room, across the bottom.

Then I'd sew (or buy) some cream colored throw pillows to tie it all together.

Both really good ideas. I love lace, too. It's airy and gives the darker colors a "light" touch.

Only you can tell if it is too dark, as the amount of light in the room makes a tremendous difference. But I like the idea of going with a drape that matches the wall colour, as I think that always makes a room look more spacious.

I absolutely love red and white gingham checks... the 1/2 inch size checks. Just a valance would make your kitchen cozy and friendly.

We bought a home not long ago. It had a small living room 16x12 which is now an open concept with dining and kitchen; as we took out walls. I put in hand-scraped hardwood floors, birch chestnut so they are darker. All the windows are dark wood. I will put in white trim throughout home. My better half wanted dark furniture when I finally caved and it is all brown leather/nail-head.Paint and Curtain Color Advice -

I found a rug to open and brighten the area, a Surya Steinberger (dark brown, camel, aqua, taupe, sage). Now, I can help with anyone's home/office, but not mine. So, I ask for wall color(s) and what curtains for living and dining. I know the ceiling is 8ft so it is probably best to keep white I think (we removed the popcorn ceiling so, excuse the look).

I also have all 6 panel doors that will go in closets and hallways. The living room window is a + shape and and 84" wide by 76" long and two walls on either side approximately 4.5 ft.

Please pardon the mess as there are so many projects going on (kitchen next). The curtains "sorta" up now came with home. I just need a cozy warm and inviting area.
Thank you.

I need to find curtains for my living room. I am not sure what color to go with. I have a dark gray couch with a chocolate love seat. One accent wall, sky blue, and a red shag rug. I will go with longer curtains to give the illusion of a bigger window.

My curtain rods are unique in the sense that they hang from the ceiling so I can utilize the longer curtains. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.Living Room Curtain Color Advice - view of room

I want to purchase curtains for my living room, but am stuck on the color. My walls are off-white/beige, my rug is tan, the couch is gold on gold, and the 2 chairs which are in front of the windows are striped in shades of gold and an olive green.

Any ideas?

I'm looking for some help to decide on a curtain colour for my front room as I'm not very good at matching things. I have magnolia walls, cream/beige carpet, and a red fabric couch. I have a big bay window and a smaller window and can't decide what colour curtains.

I have been thinking of a deep olive green shade, but that's just a thought. Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated:)

I am a little scared of bold colors so I have gotten stuck in a rut of neutral colors. I have medium brown carpet, a chocolate brown couch and love seat, and egg shell walls with an almost olive green trim.

I have tan curtains now, but I am so over all the neutrals. Is there a color choice for curtains to start brightening up my life? Or do I just move and start over?

You need some different colors, sizes and textures to make this room interesting.
First, an ivory or off-white shag rug bigger than the one you have now.

The lamps need to be bigger. Try for a red ceramic lamp set with barrel shades.
The picture on the wall should be poppies, a canvas print and much bigger.
Curtains- I'd go with a shiny satin finish and a color like dark charcoal.

Take out the big brown chair, move the couch on the wall where the brown chair is, put the rug in front of the couch, coffee table on top of rug, other chair in the corner on the left and the side table in the centr of the window, then add some color of either blues or yellows or turquios and find white shear curtains with a beautiful flowery print with all of the colors in it to match.

Use color. Make the curtains 'wall to wall'. Here's a very quickly thrown together example of what color in the curtains, rug and a larger wall decoration could do.

I have white walls and tan sofas. What color do you suggest for curtains? I was thinking of adding purple pillows and other purple (lavender) accent colors. Our entertainment area is also brown. Thank you!

Why not keep it in the same colour "family?" Yellows or shades of orange? Even greens would go well with the earth tones yet brighten the room.

Good luck!

I'd do a nice vertical stripe of taupe and purple, with the taupe stripe narrower than the purple one.

Since you have a very neutral colour pallet so far, you might go with mauve/purple curtains, since that is a colour that you like. Or if you like a very clean background, use white curtains.

I would get white or cream to match the tv but most likely my curtains would match my sofa set. like mine is green and my curtains are white with green leaves.

I would also go with a white to make the room look bigger. I prefer drapes to provide a subtle background to the room rather than stand out and yell "look at me, look at me".

Add colour with your paintings and accessories. This also gives a you a lot of choices with regard to sofas and chairs as well.

corner of room with windows and couchI live in an apartment. Our wall in the living room is off white. There is a dark brown couch, dark brown center and side table and red area carpet. What color is best for my curtains? I only have 2 small windows. I tried to put on white silhoutte curtains, but my husband finds it boring. Thank you!

I would put up red curtains to accent the rug and chair in the room. You could use a double rod to keep the sheers and just use the red panels as an accent.

Personally, I like the curtains that you have. In my opinion, curtains should be a backdrop rather than an eyecatcher in a room. I would hang more art rather than change the drapes.

Think about your tastes. What colors do you like; are bright colors or neutrals more your style? A rich red might go well with the black and white. Maybe you would like champagne hues for a softer look?

When you pick out a few colors, think about how the curtains will look with the floor as well. You want to go for a unifying effect.

I would go with white, or with a black and white bold print. I think it would be important to pick a silky, luxurious fabric as well. Rooms that are done in black and white look quite sophisticated.
